I find that there are many great ideas, thoughts and rants out there floating around in the grey matter between our ears. However, it seems that people are unable to share these ideas, thoughts, and rants for some unknown reason. This blog is designed to help get those ideas out in the open so that others can read it and say "That What I Was Thinking"

TALK ABOUT A RUFF BOOK TO READ!

I was thinking that it was about time to start a blog. I have no idea what a blog is but I thought that I would start one nonetheless. (I guess I don't have enough things to do with my time.) So away I went, it took about 23 seconds before I was stuck. I had no idea how to do this blogging thing. What did I do! I turned to the second greatest invention in the last few decades: (the mesh shirts from the eighties are definitely number one) THE INTERNET.

Within seconds (no, nanoseconds) I had over 1 million webpages to check out. Great now what do I do, how do you choose the best website out of a couple million? Do not worry, all was not lost, because on this day Lady Luck (whoever that is) was on my side and I was whisked away to www.dummies.com. You may have never been to this site, but we are all aware of the black and yellow books designed to make your life a little easier, yes, that's right the "insert favourite word here" for Dummies Books. Now I remember the first time these books hit the shelves as they attempted to make things like Windows (the computer program ya dummy), computers, and the Internet easier for us "Dummies" to comprehend. Over the last few years I started to realize that these books were getting out of control, but now I am convinced that they have taken it way too far. I ask you to look at the following book:

That is right, they have a book called "Puppies For Dummies." Now here's my first thought, if you have to have a book to tell you about puppies, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OWN OR EVEN GO NEAR A PUPPY, EVER! Here is a list of other DUMMIES Books.

Crossword Puzzle Challenges For Dummies (how hard can these puzzles really be?)

Fishing for Dummies (come on now, it's just fishing)

Robot Building for Dummies (talk about your oxymoron)

Weather for Dummies (I can't even imagine what is in this book (rain? sun? clouds? maybe there are lots of pictures!))

My point in all this is that I think that society needs to stop taking the short cuts, the easy way around things. Everywhere you look there is technology that is designed to make life easier, make it less of a hassle. However, we have become lazy and refuse to do things for ourselves. Have you ever driven past a Tim Horton's on a Saturday morning? The line of cars for the Drive Thru stretches for miles. If you park your car and get out and walk for a few steps (like 10-15) you can get your order faster and get some exercise at the same time. When was the last time you picked up a phone and called a friend? Or do you simply log onto the computer and type what you would like to say instead? Do we still have social skills that do not involve having a login name and password? We need to get back to the basics and stop taking the short cuts. So! Go out and call someone, visit them, park your car and walk, or pick up a book (not a for Dummies book) and give yourself some credit, because you are not a dummy, you have a brain, you do not need to take the easy road all of the time. Get out there and blaze a path, walk the road that is less travelled. Someone once said that "There's no shortcuts to any place worth going" and today THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING.

I like what you were thinking...keep posting!!!!!

I'm with you: I walk in to Tim Horton's. It's like my little secret for speedy service. Although last time I was in, I ordered a sandwich and, after much convincing, changed the servers assumptions about me: He assumed that I required a large sandwhich (supersize me!) because I'm much bigger than him! Who says that!? Especially to someone my size?! Maybe that's why people choose the drive through!
